Home or House
Home! What is it exactly that makes a house a home and not just a house. A house is just made of wood, stone, bricks or a combination of building materials. Growing up there are memories of coming home from school to the smell of Mom making Christmas goodies like cookies, cakes, squares and pies. Or working on homework assignments during the school year and the evening meal being prepared with the smell drifting to where we were doing our homework. Memories of Dad working in his office, making funny little jokes. Some of our childhood memories we may take along with us as we make our house a home. A home is what we make of the place we live in. The love, the concern, memories. Not just the material possessions that we own.

I love this post. You wrote it well. It made me feel young. I felt as though I was a child once more, embraced in the protection and security of my parents. Those familiar scents, periods of laughter and times of family assurance. It is, so often, hard for me to recall memories, but when someone writes as you just did, I am transported to the past and bear witness once more those undying moments. Thanks you for this. It is always a blessing to live outside of times hold even if it is only for a time. I hope now that I may provide these things for my young children. Memories that they will carry on with them. Thanks for the encouragement and reminders.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog. I want to cozy up with my family by that fire and read "the Hobbit" with them. You make me feel at home here.
